Williams Family Home - Newark, NJ, Friday Night

The funeral for Matty had, of course, been closed casket. And it had been full of cops (all former coworker's of Danny's) and firefighters (all former coworker's of his father) so it was easy to not have to address anything emotionally at the time.

Though Grace being there with him had caused more than a few cracks to come through as he just tried to get through this period.

Which was possibly why he was laying in one of bedrooms in the home that he and his siblings had grown up in, staring at the ceiling, trying to will himself to sleep. Even though he knew he'd have nightmares there.

Eighty percent of this was how they were all the time. The rest. Well. The rest involved nakedness and Steve was to just compartmentalize that for the moment.

Danny balled up the shirt and tossed it over at their luggage before moving to get comfortable on the tiny bed with Steve again. Which mostly amounted to laying on top of him like a surly, New Jersey blanket.

Steve's favorite kind of blanket! He put his arm around Danny because there was nowhere else to put his arm, anyway, and snuggled into the pillow he'd absolutely stolen.

At least Steve would wake up before the rest of the house so they wouldn't be woken up by his ma like this. Danny curled his arms around Steve's ridiculous chest to keep him from leaving right away, resting his cheek on Steve's collarbone.

Steve had fully intended to stay up until he was sure Danny was asleep, but this was just comfortable, and he felt himself starting to drift off. "Go t'sleep, Danny," he mumbled.
