MCA #0, Late, Late Thursday Night

After the weekend they had, Danny's insomnia was back in force. Which meant that, after some staring at the ceiling and tossing and turning, he was stumbling out of bed to give into the urge to go check on Steve.

Look, the guy got kidnapped. He was allowed to be a little bit anxious about the whole thing. He didn't want to wake the guy if he was sleeping, but it would be good to make sure he was... just to make sure of things, okay?

"I'm good at a lot of things," Steve replied softly.

Danny sighed and shifted his cheek against Steve's chest again.

"Yeah, I know you are," he said, sort of hoping Steve would keep that up. It was unfair how much better that shoulder already felt.

Steve let out a tiny, barely noticeable little sigh at that cheek shift--it was ridiculous how good intentional, soft touch felt right now--and kept up his little massage.

This, they could probably collectively just decide to not bring up in therapy, right? Because it would give some wrong impressions, right?

Right.

Danny sighed again, shifting a little in place to make it easier for Steve to work. And hey, if that happened to have him sprawl a little more against Steve, so be it.

Oh, Steve would never, ever volunteer about this. This was for them and absolutely no one else's business. (And the various scenarios running though his head about how this could escalate, complete with semi-cheesy "other ways to relieve stress" lines were also no one else's business.)

Now that he had such a clear invitation, though, his hands roamed a little further, working the kicks out of Danny's upper back, too.

That would be saved for when he went completely off the rails and stayed in the shower twice as long as he felt he should.

And now Danny was just never gonna leave. His shoulders flexed and relaxed under Steve's touch and he let out another one of those little aborted groans each time Steve found a tight spot. Which there were a lot of. Because Danny 'All Anxiety All The Time' Williams.

Seven whole minutes in the shower! The Navy would be shocked. Those groans would definitely be making an appearance.

Steve's hands slowly dipped down to the small of Danny's back and he held his breath.

Well, Steve's hands would slip into some of Danny's fantasies before he could catch himself too.

Even though he should be smarter here. They were supposed to be sleeping and not... whatever this was. But instead, Danny curled his arm up underneath Steve's shoulder to touch his shoulder and neck in response to that.

Steve let out a surprised gasp and bit down on his lower lip a moment too late. His eyes locked onto Danny's, checking to be sure he was still okay with...whatever this was turning into.

Danny was still trying to get a handle on exactly where this was going and if it was in his head or not.

Which was why he met Steve's gaze, running his thumb along Steve's neck as he evened out his breathing. When had it picked up there? (Probably when he hadn't pulled away after that message had gone on longer than was, you know, strictly platonic.)

Steve's breath hitched again, eyes going dark and a little helpless. This was uncharted territory for him.

Well, the helpless wasn't what Danny wanted to see at all. He couldn't help put push up a little so they were on even ground with each other.

Which, coincidentally, put him in the right position to kiss him if he moved just a little more.

That thought had also crossed Steve's mind, and his eyes flicked to Danny's mouth before going back to his eyes.

Danny licked his lips at the little gesture, thumb brushing along the underside of Steve's jaw. "Steve..."

Steve's eyes fluttered closed and he let out an involuntary little sigh, moving even closer into Danny's space.

Which meant Danny was closing the distance between them to kiss him while fully in his right mind for a change. And, yes, it was just as good as it had been before.

"Danny," Steve sighed, pulling him closer.

This right here would be the true test of their ability to pretend everything was normal and fine.

But right now, it was all about enjoying the moment for what it was. Danny hummed, shifting up against him to make this easier to keep figuring out just how Steve enjoyed this.

Steve kept one hand tucked at the small of Danny's back and curled the other around the back of his head, cradled and slightly possessive, and kept kissing him.

Which was more than enough to cause Danny to sigh and bring up his other hand to cup Steve's face in both of them now.

Steve was not going to panic and overthink this. (That was for tomorrow.) Steve was going to finally pull back enough to nip gently at the underside of Danny's jaw, searching for how to get him to make more of those addictive little sounds.

Oh, so he just wanted to make sure to leave physical evidence on Danny to have all the mixed feelings about until they healed, huh? That actually tracked for their relationship.

The noise Danny made at that was a bit like it was punched out of him as he tilted his head obligingly to let Steve do as he pleased there.

Well, Steve's control freak nature was definitely showing here, too? Rubbing his nose against stubble was new but not bad as he made his way up to bite just behind Danny's ear.

Danny's fingers flexed and tightened against Steve's skin and he let out a much louder noise at that. Because someone really enjoyed a bossy partner in bed. Shocking literally no one.

He didn't mean to slot his leg between Steve's, but it was happening as he tried to find a comfortable position to let Steve just... continue all of that.

Steve moaned softly because wow, yes please to more contact even if more contact was, well, exposing exactly how much Steve was enjoying this and vulnerability was not his strong suit.

He went back to kissing Danny's mouth in an effort to not have to talk about any of this.
