MCA #0, Sunday Afternoon
Well, yesterday was a thing. A whole entire thing. And Danny was not happy about any of it.
So, after doing the thing he'd done for weeks when he first arrived, he spent his morning trying the causeway to follow after Steve again to no avail. Hence being back at the apartment to stress bake.
It was this or have an anxiety attack over the level of unknowns and he thought his shrink would prefer this, honestly.

Ultimately, Sunday-afternoon boredom coupled with the hope that Danny might be cooking something won out, and she headed downstairs to knock on their door. Maybe it would be nothing and she'd get to hear a fun story about an explosion or mutant spiders again.

"Hey." He vaguely waved into the apartment.

Also, no Steve? But maybe he was just out?

It was actually more worrisome to her that Danny was here, if Steve had gone to Afghanistan. But she was probably being dumb, and he was just off torturing the troopers or something.

You know, do that first. Before the whole thing.
"Kind of a long story. Ish."

She was kind of an expert in running off to do stupid things, herself, but that didn't mean Annie couldn't appreciate that it didn't always leave the people behind in a great position.
no subject
Did he sort of hesitate over the word 'girlfriend' a little bit? Maybe. But it was a confusing relationship there. Steve had a lot of confusing relationships.
no subject
But then, why would he have? Just because he and Danny acted like the most married people Annie had ever met, that didn't actually have to mean anything. Steve could have a girlfriend, sure.
Though, that being said, Annie was a lot less accepting of this girlfriend if she had to do with this scary Afghanistan thing.

Probably the dangerous kind.

"Her contact's kid got kidnapped by the local Taliban. And apparently that's their recruitment methods, so..."
It was indeed dangerous and bad.

She paused, thinking about that for a second, then cut her eyes over to Danny. "Are you okay?"
Seeing as how he was here, and not in Afghanistan. Annie knew she'd be climbing the walls with worry, if it were her.

He was probably kind of busy. Didn't help with the worry, though.

The angry voicemails that Portalocity was getting...

Jenna Kaye being a depressing example of it.
"I'm not--it's just venting. I know."
no subject
Just because of that comment about Steve trusting people.
no subject
He settled on that one.
"She's not a bad person, but this..."

"He'll tell everyone that he's done missions worse than this before, but he had actual back up then. Not this--off the books whatever this is."
Also, he had his team coming to rescue his ass in Korea.

"We got anginetti or rugelach." Which both probably sounded fancy, though the Jersey accent brought it down to normal. "I promised mice cookies and I'm worried what'll happen if I renege on that."
no subject
"You make all these different types of cookies every year?" she asked, already dutifully rolling up her sleeves. "I usually count myself lucky if I find someone who made those peanut butter things with the Hershey's kiss in the middle."
no subject
Steve was going to get so much goddamn matzo ball soup shoved at him.
"I didn't have a kitchen for a couple years there. Between the divorce and the housing market in Hawaii--its kind of a luxury I'm not about to take for granted again. And I like baking for other people."

"There's also malasadas, which are donuts, but better."
He was gonna make everyone fat. It was his goal.
no subject
Poor girl had also never had a beignet.
no subject
Soon he'd be giving Steve panic attacks over potential retirement plans.

"Well, don't tell your mom about this. Dough's made with cream cheese on top the butter because ma's grandma wanted to make everyone fat and happy."

Danny grabbed his phone, answering it before the second ring could go through. Because it wasn't a number he recognized and that never boded well. "Williams."

no subject
Which it didn't.
"Danny, are you there?"
no subject
Asking those important questions.

"What do you mean? Who's got him?" Oh, he had an idea.

Danny suppressed a sigh, grabbing a pen and pad off the kitchen counter. "Yeah, go ahead."
He'd make it work. He'd--see if that damn gift from 'Santa' actually worked even.

Because a Navy SEAL in the hands of the Taliban was bad.
no subject
"Alright, I've got it," Danny said, holding back more questions because they were on a short timer now.

Enjoy your weekend, Danny!
