MCA #0, Late, Late Thursday Night

After the weekend they had, Danny's insomnia was back in force. Which meant that, after some staring at the ceiling and tossing and turning, he was stumbling out of bed to give into the urge to go check on Steve.

Look, the guy got kidnapped. He was allowed to be a little bit anxious about the whole thing. He didn't want to wake the guy if he was sleeping, but it would be good to make sure he was... just to make sure of things, okay?

"You okay with that?" Because, yes. Yes, he would. He might even be able to fall asleep, which would be great after the last couple sleepless nights.

"I wouldn't have said anything if I wasn't," Steve said. "You look comfortable."

And it was easier to pretend this was about Danny's needs than his.

Oh, definitely. Just like how it was easier to make sure it really was okay with Steve before saying yes.

Danny nodded. "Don't steal the covers, got it?"

"Mmm, no promises," Steve said. "I'm not wearing a shirt and might get cold."

Because of that terrible shirt allergy.

Danny rolled his eyes and gave him a little shove. "You're gonna do it to spite me, aren't you?"

Oh, like he wasn't going to end up latching onto Steve in the middle of the night for cuddling and warmth.

"Would I do that?" Steve asked, shoving back.

"Oh, you most certainly would," Danny replied, scooting up to swing his legs up. "I've met you, babe. You can't fool me."

"I've stopped trying to," Steve said, settling into his pillow with a little sigh.

"Damn right," Danny muttered, finding his own spot next to Steve. It might take a moment or two to find the right position to make this work in a normal, you know, platonic way.

This was super normal! For them! Maybe!

"You can have two pillows, so, you know, shut up," Steve said.

If they just faked it until they made it, it would be fine. Just fine.

"You're a giver," Danny said, rolling onto his side so he was facing away from Steve. Then found it to be less than ideal.

"Full of aloha spirit," Steve said. "Stop calling me cheap."

"You are cheap," Danny said, rolling onto his back so his shoulder to pressed against Steve like how he wanted. A constant reminder that he was safely there.

"Still here, buddy," Steve said softly.

"Right," Danny said, staring up at the ceiling. "I know that."

He was still relieved to have proof.

"C'mere," Steve said, pulling Danny in so he could hear Steve's heart beating.

So enjoy laying on Steve's chest there, Danny.

Danny would enjoy it! He'd tense up at being pulled over for a moment. And also the position he was in, but he relaxed slowly against him.

He was more tired than he thought. Clearly.

"Better not be ticklish," he muttered instead of questioning any of this.

"I'm not ticklish," Steve said, chuckling. "Relax, Danno."

"I'm relaxed," he sighed, tossing his arm over Steve as well to get comfortable. "This is me relaxed."

"This is you relaxed," Steve said, pressing his thumb into a knot in Danny's shoulder to massage it out. "Might be why you're not asleep."

Danny did not mean to let out a little groan as Steve worked out that knot, but it slipped out anyway.

Well. That was definitely a noise that Danny made that Steve was not going to react to because it would be just incredibly awkward for everyone, okay.

But he was going to keep going on that knot because he was just a little bit of a masochist.

He really, truly was, huh? Because this was up there with kissing at work thanks to the island.

And Danny didn't even have an excuse as he tried to cover the next one with a sigh that in no way was better. In absolutely no way was it less suggestive.

Steve was just...not going to talk right now because he couldn't trust what his voice was going to sound like.

He kept his thumb moving, though, and waited for the next sound.

Just the right pressure in a spot had Danny rubbing his cheek against Steve's chest as he made a sound in the back of his throat that was another one of those 'was someone watching porn?' noises.

If that kept up, it was going to get real awkward for both of them.
