MCA #0, Late, Late Thursday Night

After the weekend they had, Danny's insomnia was back in force. Which meant that, after some staring at the ceiling and tossing and turning, he was stumbling out of bed to give into the urge to go check on Steve.

Look, the guy got kidnapped. He was allowed to be a little bit anxious about the whole thing. He didn't want to wake the guy if he was sleeping, but it would be good to make sure he was... just to make sure of things, okay?

That was just unnecessary. Who would marry that guy?

Which reminded him: "Anything from Matt?"

"I put out feelers, but nothing so far." At least, with Annie's help, they had the money they needed.

Steve gave Danny's fingers a comforting squeeze.

"It hasn't been that long back home. That's... that's all I can think about, you know?" It helped that they each had something to worry about with the other, didn't it? Well. Not really helped. But made them feel better, at least.

It made them both a little vulnerable, which went a long way in making Steve feel better about sharing. God forbid he be the only one needing something.

"Yeah," he said. "It's been on my mind, too."

"Thanks," Danny said, glancing over at him. "For stickin' with me with this."

Steve used his free head to gently cuff Danny in the back of his head. "Idiot, of course I will."

"You're an ass," Danny had to reply, sighing with relief anyway.

"Yeah, but that's not news," Steve said, ignoring any niggling little voices about how it was Danny to focus on how nice it felt to have someone in bed with him again.

He snuggled in a little closer.

It was comforting, wasn't it?

Danny sighed with amusement and leaned back against him, closing his eyes. "Wouldn't be you otherwise, right?"

"Probably not," Steve said, smiling down at him. "Want to bunk in here for the rest of the night?"

Did bringing it up make it weird now?

"You okay with that?" Because, yes. Yes, he would. He might even be able to fall asleep, which would be great after the last couple sleepless nights.

"I wouldn't have said anything if I wasn't," Steve said. "You look comfortable."

And it was easier to pretend this was about Danny's needs than his.

Oh, definitely. Just like how it was easier to make sure it really was okay with Steve before saying yes.

Danny nodded. "Don't steal the covers, got it?"

"Mmm, no promises," Steve said. "I'm not wearing a shirt and might get cold."

Because of that terrible shirt allergy.

Danny rolled his eyes and gave him a little shove. "You're gonna do it to spite me, aren't you?"

Oh, like he wasn't going to end up latching onto Steve in the middle of the night for cuddling and warmth.

"Would I do that?" Steve asked, shoving back.

"Oh, you most certainly would," Danny replied, scooting up to swing his legs up. "I've met you, babe. You can't fool me."

"I've stopped trying to," Steve said, settling into his pillow with a little sigh.

"Damn right," Danny muttered, finding his own spot next to Steve. It might take a moment or two to find the right position to make this work in a normal, you know, platonic way.

This was super normal! For them! Maybe!

"You can have two pillows, so, you know, shut up," Steve said.

If they just faked it until they made it, it would be fine. Just fine.

"You're a giver," Danny said, rolling onto his side so he was facing away from Steve. Then found it to be less than ideal.

"Full of aloha spirit," Steve said. "Stop calling me cheap."

"You are cheap," Danny said, rolling onto his back so his shoulder to pressed against Steve like how he wanted. A constant reminder that he was safely there.

"Still here, buddy," Steve said softly.
